Steve Walton Awarded Fellowship of the British Institute of Professional Photography

I was thrilled to gain my Fellowship of the British Institute of Professional Photography a couple of months ago.  Following this honour, I have been invited to the BIPP National Photographic Awards to formally receive my Fellowship.  The BIPP is the UK’s most venerable professional photographic qualifying body and the National Photographic Awards are the most prestigious showcase for professional photography in the UK.  This event marks a significant phase in my career and is one of the greatest honours that I have achieved so far.

The Awards are being held on 28th November at Blenheim Palace, a spectacular, opulent and fitting venue for the UK’s top professional photography event and I am really looking forward to the evening!

Lynsey & Daniel’s wedding at Quorn Country Hotel.

Lynsey and Daniel’s wedding took place at Quorn Country Hotel.  A lovely, mellow wedding day for a lovely couple!  The day began when I joined Lynsey in the Bridal Suite for her pre-wedding preparations as Daniel, the groomsmen and the guests began to arrive.  A very intimate Civil Ceremony followed in the Orangery, and it is no surprise that an otherwise perfectly composed groom showed some emotion during the exchange of their vows.  Everyone present shared your emotion Daniel, including myself.  Well done!

Quorn Country Hotel is one of Leicestershire’s most popular wedding venues in a beautiful setting by the gently flowing River Soar.  The garden overlooking the river lends itself very well to wedding photography, with plenty of room for the couple and their guests to enjoy their special day.

Hayley & Karl’s Prestwold Hall Wedding

Karl & Hayley’s wedding ceremony took place at St Andrew’s Church, Prestwold and their reception followed at neighboring Prestwold Hall.  Both are beautiful venues and quite unique in being situated adjacent to each other.  They could not have wished for better weather and the event at Prestwold Hall was overseen by Nici Wood with her customary calm efficiency to ensure the couple and their guests had a wonderful day!  It was a fantastic day in every way and I was very privileged to attend as their wedding photographer.

Karl & Hayley commissioned me to photography their wedding over a year ago and from the outset they wanted to have their high resolution wedding images on disk with the option to select a high quality album at a later stage.  It is a versatile option, Karl & Hayley have been provided with a licence for personal use of their images and they are now free to have prints and other professional products made from their disk of over 460 high quality images.

I am often asked by couples if I will supply their images on dvd, and I am very happy to do so.  There are no restrictions on how the images are used.

Further details of how to obtain your wedding images on disk can be found on my dedicated website.

All Inclusive Weddings

Most couples like to choose their own wedding suppliers.  From the venue,  the florist, the cake, the car hire company and the photographer, the whole process of choosing products and services is something that most couples want to enjoy and share the experience together as part of the build up to their wedding day.  It’s what makes their day special, they have created it for themselves with their own ideas and choices.

So what about the alternative ‘one stop shop’ option of All Inclusive Weddings that is offered by some venues?  You pay a fixed price to the venue for a range of suppliers and services.  The florist,  the car and the photographer are usually part of the deal.  The concept will appeal to many couples as it removes the need to make multiple email and telephone enquiries, as well as arranging meetings with suppliers to make product and price comparisons between them when choosing who to have for your wedding.   All Inclusive Wedding offers are usually restricted to weekdays only.

The venue, of course, will be exactly what you see and a fixed number of guests will be covered, possibly with an adequate drinks allowance.  If your guest list is higher than the deal offers, you may need to reduce the number of guests at your wedding or pay a higher rate for the extra guests.  Make sure you see the car before booking to know exactly what you will get on your wedding day.  The flowers will be perfectly adequate, but make sure that everything you want is included.  There should be a quality bridal bouquet and enough hand-ties and coursages (button-holes!) for the Bridal Party as well as centre-pieces for the tables and mantle shelves.

The risk lies with the packaged photographer.  Can you be certain that the wedding photographer who is sold to you is the one who will be photographing your wedding?  Is the album that you were shown by the venue the photographer’s own work?

A significant portion of the All Inclusive fee will be taken by the photographer and that may well be in the region of £1500, but you can be certain that the album will not be a top quality product.

Would you pay £1500 for a photographer who you might not meet until they turn up on your wedding day and can only supply a low to mid quality off-the-peg wedding album?

Whilst an All Inclusive Weddings package may be attractive, there are a few caveats and in today’s marketplace, everything is negotiable – especially your choice of wedding photographer.

Choosing  your own photographer could well bring cost savings too, book Steve Walton to photograph your wedding and I guarantee there will be a significant saving as well as a choice of top quality products!

Your wedding is just one day and one chance, but your photographs are there for more than a lifetime…..It’s your choice!

Claire and Ed’s Pre-Wedding Photoshoot at Sketchley Grange, Hinckley

The final pre-wedding meeting with my couples enables us to compile a schedule for their wedding day with all of their key requested shots on the list. I can also take the opportunity to provide a complimentary portrait shoot.  I do not charge for this, the couple are free to select a mounted print free of charge from their personal gallery in the Client Area of my website as part of the service I offer.  It’s a good introduction for them to experience being photographed by me in advance of their wedding and is also valuable for me to get a feel for how they interact with each other.  This is important because everyone is different, some people are naturally reserved whilst others are more extrovert and less inhibited.  I would never try to make anyone do something that they would not be comfortable with on their wedding day and the pre-wedding photoshoot allows me to assesss where individual boundaries are drawn.  Ed and Claire’s wedding is taking place at Gilmorton Church, followed by their reception at Sketchley Grange Hotel near Hinckley.

Ed falls within the ‘slightly more reserved’ category and Claire is very definitely extrovert.  In fact, Claire has to be a wedding and location portrait photographers dream. Here is a bride-to-be who is determined to throw herself 110% into her wedding day and have a good time, come what may.  I’m really excited about photographing Ed & Claire’s wedding!

Neil & Rebecca at Prestwold Hall, Leicestershire

Neil & Rebecca chose beautiful Prestwold Hall on the border of Leicestershire and Nottinghamshire for their intimate civil ceremony and reception.  What a lovely wedding and what a venue!  Prestwold Hall is one of the most exclusive wedding venues in Leicestershire and I am very proud to be associated with Prestwold Hall as a recommended photographer.

The happy, fun-loving couple had a wonderful day, with a glorious sunset to take advantage of to finish a very nice set of images for their album.
